**Fred Endert Pool Closure Announcement**
Dear Community,
During the recent storm that occurred on November 19, 2024, the pool sustained damage that will affect the anticipated three-month closure start date.
Last night, one of the large windows on the south side of the pool was blown in, resulting in shattered glass both on the pool deck and in the pool itself. Our dedicated public works team responded quickly this morning to board up the window, while our pool crew is working diligently to clean up the glass indoors. However, it is essential to drain the pool to ensure all glass is completely removed. This task is significant and time-consuming, as we will need to drain approximately 160,000 gallons of water, remove any glass from the pool bottom, refill the pool, balance the chemicals, and reheat the water from around 55°F to our standard temperature of 83°F. This entire process is expected to take approximately three to five days.
While we had initially planned to keep the pool open until November 30, 2024, closing only on Thanksgiving, we have decided to adjust the closure date effective immediately (11/20/24), due to this storm damage and considerable cleaning efforts required.
**Locker Rentals:**
Guests will be contacted to retrieve their belongings from their rented lockers. Any lockers that are not cleared by November 30 will be manually emptied by staff, and items will be available for pickup at City Hall.
**Pass Holders:**
Effective today, November 20, 2024, all 10-visit and monthly passes purchased for the Fred Endert Pool will be placed on hold until the facility reopens. Annual pass holders will be contacted and given the option to use their passes at the Brookings Facility beginning December 2. If annual pass holders do not indicate whether they prefer to use their pass or place it on hold, their passes will automatically be put on hold starting November 30.
**Del Norte Healthcare District Sponsored Senior Passes:**
During our three-month closure, low-income sponsored senior passes from the Del Norte Healthcare District will be valid for use at the Brookings Pool. Registration for December has already commenced, and signups for January and February will be conducted at the Brookings facility instead of the Fred Endert Pool.
**Brookings Pool Operations:**
The Brookings Pool is scheduled to reopen on Monday, December 2. We will offer a range of programs including exercise classes, lap swimming, group lessons, rentals, recreational sessions, and open swim times. Monthly passes are available for families, youth, adults, and seniors for use at the Brookings Pool from December 2024 to February 2025, to purchase a pass, please follow this link- https://south-coast-community-aquatics.square.site/ . After December 4, the community will also have the option to purchase daily passes and register children for group lessons at the Brookings Pool.
**Transportation:**
The City of Crescent City is currently exploring transportation options in collaboration with the Redwood Coast Transit Authority. We aim to assist those with limited transportation options and will provide updates if such services become available.
**Conclusion:**
From November 20th- February 28th, Crescent City Fred Endert Pool will be closed for maintenance and facility improvements. Brookings Or outdoor pool will be open starting Monday December 2, please check our Face Book for the schedule.
