There’s a big bicycle tour coming to Crescent City, and the organizers want locals to know about it, so no one is shocked to see all these riders.
Bicycle Rides Northwest is bringing 300 riders and 50 crew to town on Tuesday 7/11. They’ll arrive that afternoon using Lake Earl Drive/Washington Blvd./Pebble Beach Drive and stay overnight for two nights at Beachfront Park.
On Wednesday 7/12, the riders have an optional out-and-back route that will follow Howland Hill Road and then Southfork Road to Stephen Bridge before turning around. They will be off the roads by 2 p.m. that day.
On Thursday 7/13, the riders will head to Lake Selmac, using Highway 199. There will be a short traffic delay on 199 eastbound between the junction of 101/199 and Jedediah Smith State Park, from 8 to 8:30 a.m. to let the riders safely through that section. Riders will then pull into the park to let drivers by.
Farther down 199 starting at Patrick Creek, the riders will use turnouts to let cars get by; the organizers are asking drivers to be patient and not pass riders except when they pull over or in the multiple passing-lane sections. The riders are estimated to be on 199 from 8:00 a.m. until roughly noon, with a rest stop at the Collier Tunnel Rest Area.
Riders are required to obey traffic laws and will be as courteous as possible in not holding up traffic. The event is paying the city to use the site, eating in local restaurants, using local operators for optional activities and providing a community grant as well, and paying local kids to help with baggage. Let’s make sure we provide a nice welcome for them.
