Kevin Carey, Fire Chief
Your fire department is made up of a diverse team of volunteer community members who offer dedicated and professional service 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year.
We continue a long history of tradition and service in the community that began in the year 1900 when the Crescent City Volunteer Fire Department was established to serve the fire protection needs of the City of Crescent City. Crescent City Fire & Rescue is an all risk, volunteer fire department serving the City of Crescent City and the greater Crescent City area. The Department is the product of an operational merger by agreement between the City of Crescent City and the Crescent Fire Protection District that occurred in 2015. This agreement between the two jurisdictions provides many benefits to the community including shared efficiency through purchasing, staffing, and cross jurisdictional response where personnel, apparatus, and equipment are utilized from the nearest facility to an incident regardless of jurisdictional geographic boundaries.
In November 2019 the City of Crescent City and Crescent Fire Protection adopted the Crescent City Fire & Rescue 10-year Financial Master Plan. The document represents the culmination of cooperation and shared services by the fire department’s parent agencies. This partnership represents a tremendous value to the City and District, and therefore to the community. The Master Plan is the first stand-alone effort to document current services, costs and structures for the fire department and identifies long-term strategies for improved fire and life safety services to the community. Crescent City Fire & Rescue operates from four stations within the area. One station is owned and maintained by the City of Crescent City, and three stations are owned and maintained by Crescent Fire Protection District. Our department responds annually to an ever-increasing number of calls for service including structure, wildland and vehicle fires, traffic collisions, emergency medical incidents, hazardous materials and conditions, and other calls for service. In 2020, we responded to 2,064 calls for service.
