DEPUTY CITY CLERK
This is a temporary, part-time position of limited duration.
SALARY: $15.02 per hour. No benefits.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs highly responsible clerical and administrative work supporting the meeting processes and legal record keeping requirements of the City Council and appointed boards and commissions as well as being knowledgeable of and supporting other functions and activities of the City Manager/City Clerk.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Plans, organizes, and performs work related to the statutory duties of City Clerk; prepares and distributes City Council and other meeting agendas; attends daytime and evening meetings and records and transcribes minutes; prepares and processes documents to implement Council action; maintains the Municipal Code; publishes, posts and files legal notices; transmits municipal documents and tracks their execution; maintains historical information; assists and provides support to the City Council and City Clerk; processes public information and public records requests; administers oaths of office; and performs related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by courses in business practices, office procedures, and records management.
EXPERIENCE: Four years of responsible experience in administrative clerical work. Or, an equivalent combination of closely related experience, education, and training that demonstrates the ability to successfully complete the essential duties of this position.
KNOWLEDGE of the organization and operation of municipal government; government codes and regulations governing records retention and destruction, elections, and recording and processing of official documents; laws and regulations governing the official duties of City Clerk; modern office practices and procedures and skill in using a variety of office equipment.
ABILITY to exercise diplomacy in contentious situations; establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials, city staff, other government agencies, and the general public; perform work responsibility and effectively with independent judgment under stress and with changing work priorities; complete work accurately and in a timely manner; communicate effectively in the English language, verbally and in writing; type rapidly and accurately at a speed sufficient to meet department objectives; work effectively and efficiently in a Microsoft Windows Office environment, including Word and Excel.
CERTIFICATIONS: Certification as a Notary Public; or the ability to obtain certification within six months.
LICENSE: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s license issued by the State Dept. of Motor Vehicles, or equivalent if a resident of another state. Must have and maintain a license in compliance with the City’s employee driving standards.

Candidates must successfully complete a written exam and an oral interview.

CRESCENT CITY is located on Hwy 101 on the pristine Northern California coast about 25 miles south of the Oregon border. The area offers an abundance of outdoor activities utilizing the proximity of the Pacific Ocean, two major rivers, national and state parks and recreation areas.
The City was incorporated in 1854 and consists of 60 full-time and 22 part-time employees. The City has a City Manager/Council form of government with a five-member elected City Council. There is a citywide population of 7,420 with a service area population of 15,000.
